Stadip Silence
SGG STADIP SILENCE is an acoustic laminated safety glass, consisting of two or more sheets of glass bonded together by one or more acoustic PVB* interlayers known specifically as PVB Silence. This produces a glass with significantly enhanced acoustic attenuation performance, with the same safety properties of SGG STADIP and SGG STADIP PROTECT. It can be used single-glazed, in acoustic insulating partitions for example.
In double-glazed form, it is beneficial in numerous applications:
- glazed facades on commercial or residential buildings located in noisy areas (close to main roads, motorways, railway stations, airports, etc.) and where there is a risk of vandalism,
- overhead glazing and roof lights (protection against outside noise, falling objects and impact noise such as rain). See SGG CLIMALIT SILENCE.
Manufacturing sizes
Maximum: 6000x3210 mm
Minimum: 300 x 300 mm
Performance
Using a PVB Silence interlayer, either 0.38 mm or 0.76 mm thick, has the effect of eliminating the fall in acoustic insulation performance at the critical frequency of the glass, in both single and double glazing (see fig. 1 and 2).
This is attributed to the enhanced sound dampening properties of the PVB Silence film. Its acoustic performance is thus identical to that of acoustic cast resin.
Its optical and safety performance is far superior however, equaling that of glasses in the SGG STADIP range.SGG STADIP SILENCE comprises clear float glass as standard.
It can also be manufactured from extra clear, low-iron glass SGG DIAMANT, from solar control glasses SGG ANTELIO, SGG COOL-LITE, SGG PARSOL, SGG REFLECTASOL or SGG STARELIO, as well as from enhanced thermally insulating glass including SGG EKO PLUS, SGG PLANISTAR, SGG PLANITHERM or SGG PLANITHERM FUTUR, and from SGG SECURIT toughened glass.
SGG STADIP SILENCE is processed like conventional laminated glass. It can be edge-worked, and/or assembled into double glazing. It can also be surface decorated by sandblasting or acid-etching.
Acoustic performance
For the same thickness of glass, SGG STADIP SILENCE achieves an average increase expressed in Rw of between 2 and 5 dB in comparison to monolithic or conventional laminated glass such as SGG STADIP or SGG STADIP PROTECT.
SGG STADIP SILENCE 8.4 or 8.8mm glass offers the same level of acoustic attenuation (Rw = 37 dB) as 19 mm SGG PLANILUX monolithic glass.
Acoustic insulation values for PVB Silence are on average 3 dB higher than for conventional PVB used in SGG STADIP and SGG STADIP PROTECT laminated glasses.
This difference can be as much as 10 dB at the critical frequency.
SGG STADIP SILENCE is more effective and can provide more "comfortable" acoustic insulation.
Comparing Rw (C;Ctr) performance levels (in dB)

6 | 31 (-1;-2) | 6.4 or 6.8 | 33 (-1;-2) | 36 (-1;-3) |
8 | 32 (-1;-2) | 8.4 or 8.8 | 34 (-1;-2) | 37 (-1;-2) |
10 | 33 (-1;-2) | 10.4 or 10.8 | 35 (-2;-3) | 38 (-1;-2) |

Tests conducted in the laboratory by the SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS Industrial Development Centre. Testing identical glass specifications in other laboratories can produce performance variations of I to 2 dB. |
Safety and security
SGG STADIP SILENCE achieves similar levels of safety and security as glasses from the SGG STADIP and SGG STADIP PROTECT ranges:
- protection against the risk of injury, using 0.38 mm acoustic PVB film,
- in overhead glazing, in guarding and the protection of property, using 0.76 mm acoustic PVB film,
- protection of property against vandalism and deterring potential intruders with a 0.76 mm acoustic PVB film combined with conventional PVB interlayers.
Spectrophotometric performance
The factors and coefficients relating to the transmittance, reflectance and absorption of light and energy are determined by the nature of the base glasses used in the laminated assembly.
Please refer to the table on p. 538.
Thermal performance
The U-value of SGG STADIP SILENCE is the same as for monolithic glass of the same thickness.
If a better thermal insulation performance is required, one of the SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS low-emissivity glasses such as SGG EKO PLUS, SGG PLANITHERM or SGG PLANITHERM FUTUR, SGG PLANISTAR, SGG PLANITHERM FUTUR N can be incorporated into the SGG STADIP SILENCE assembly itself. Alternatively, SGG STADIP SILENCE can be combined with one of the above in an SGG CLIMAPLUS SILENCE double-glazed unit.
Installation
SGG STADIP SILENCE glass must be installed in accordance with current national regulations and our special guidelines. It is essential to take into account that the framing and glazing method are of equal importance as the glass. Any air gaps significantly reduce the overall acoustic insulating performance of the window.
Fire resistance
SGG STADIP SILENCE glass in 8.4 and 8.8mm configurations have the same fire resistant properties as SGG STADIP.
